The lyrics talk about Loopy succeeding and making it to the big time. Only he can determine whether or not he can survive, which leaves him in control, which is what he wanted in the first place.

A step away from being used in fast-food ads, the term was becoming dated even back then. Perhaps that`s why some dismissed Everclear`s guitar-heavy early work as too Nirvana-esque. Although Everclear did hail from the Northwest, the band`s impeccable musicianship, clever hooks, infectious melodies, and singer Art Alexakis`s gifted voice set the band apart from the grunge of the day.If anything, the TEN YEARS GONE anthology proves that incredible songwriting stands on its own in any genre. Over the course of a decade, songwriter Alexakis composed insightful and unpretentious songs that did not compromise substance, despite acceptance by a Top 40 audience. Against the backdrop of fuzzed-out, upbeat, and roaring pop-rock, Alexakis`s lyrics display a unique kind of poignancy, offering an intimacy often missing in mainstream music. TEN YEARS GONE compiles the finest from Everclear`s catalog, including the wonderfully nostalgic "Santa Monica" and the spirited "Local God" (from 1996`s ROMEO & JULIET soundtrack). On SONGS FOR AN AMERICAN MOVIE VOL. 1, the threesome, fronted by the outspoken, charismatic Art Alexakis, suddenly finds frills galore.The album opens on a country note with the short, soft ballad title track, before kicking into a zippy, hip-hop flavored "Here We Go Again," replete with Chuck D samples. "AM Radio" uses Jean Knight`s 1971 classic "Mr. Big Stuff" to back an infectious exploration of late night radio listening long before the advent of MTV, followed by an almost breakbeat-meets-Celtic folk re-working of Van Morrison`s classic "Brown-Eyed Girl." "Unemployed Boyfriend" and leadoff single "Wonderful," reminiscent in both flavor and theme to SO MUCH FOR THE AFTERGLOW`s "Father of Mine," are closest to Everclear`s traditional sound, while "Otis Redding," a sweet, retro power ballad, stands out as one of the most sincere and sublimely lovely songs the band has created.
