I have a small band and I want to record some original music, what is a good way to digitally record?
I want to buy something for my band; maybe Guitar Center or somewhere, but I want to be able to put it on my computer with something. I have a Dell laptop, so thanks for your help!
The best and cheapest thing to have is garage band which is a Macintosh application. I don't know if it is available for windows, which is what you are on. In that case you will need a good microphone(search,scrounge or borrow) or your sound will be awful and will put you off. If you live in a city then hire a sound studio and use their recording equipment. This can cost a bit. But you are serious aren't you? Then invest in your sound.
What you are looking for is a finished, edited, and balanced, sound file. Usually wav,or aiff. which are heavy in size 40-60megabytes, but contain all the information of your song. You can transpose these into mp3 files. which are smaller in size and which you can post onto the internet easily.
One of the easier applications to learn is logic express, which is like a sound studio. But again it's a Mac.application. To be frank about this.All the serious musicians use Macintosh. Windows just doesn't have some of these apps. Maybe they do and I might be wrong, but consider your options for the future.

The Buccaneer (Original Soundtrack Recording) $8.98 Elmer Bernstein made it onto the A-list of Hollywood composers after he took over from an ailing Victor Young and scored director Cecil B. DeMille's epic The Ten Commandments (1956), starring Yul Brynner and Charlton Heston. But he was widely typed as a jazz-influenced composer because of his Oscar-nominated score for The Man With the Golden Arm (1955) and attracted more work in that vein rather than in the lushly orchestral style of The Ten Commandments. Being hired for DeMille's 1958 remake of his 1938 film The Buccaneer, the story of pirate Jean Lafitte in the battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812, brought him back to scoring on a big scale; he was again called upon to accompany the larger-than-life exploits of Brynner as Lafitte and Heston as Andrew Jackson. But The Buccaneer had a troubled production, with DeMille -- ailing and, as it turned out, working on his last film -- turning directorial duties over to his son-in-law, Anthony Quinn, while retaining only the title of executive producer. Bernstein did not have the year he was able to spend on The Ten Commandments, and he wasn't working on a film nearly as good. Nevertheless, he gave it a better score than it deserved, one full of stirring themes and strong battle music that responded to what the picture could have been rather than what it turned out to be. He used period styles, accompanying the British in "Battle at New Orleans" with a bagpipe-and-drum march, and if the "Polka" used in a ball scene wasn't entirely original, it was entirely charming. The Buccaneer is not a score people recall much when they discuss Bernstein's career, but that's only because the film wasn't a success. Fame [Original Cast Recording] $13.98 Fame began life in 1980 as a movie tracing the lives of a group of students at a performing arts high school in New York City, from acceptance to graduation. The film was a hit, with a million-selling soundtrack album featuring a Top Ten hit in the title song. Then came Fame, the TV series, which ran on network television from 1982 to 1983. Now, here is Fame: The Musical (so far, a national touring company, but not yet a Broadway show), retelling the story with a full musical score (the film had only a few songs) by composer Steve Margoshes and lyricist Jacques Levy. Margoshes is true to the early-'80s era, filling his score with synth-based dance pop crossed with typical Broadway-style choral music. Some of the material resists musicalization, notably comic character Joe Vegas' "Can't Keep It Down," a song about his uncontrollable erection, and street dancer Tyrone Jackson's confessional "Tyrone's Rap." Since the characters are mostly supposed to be teenagers with ambitions to become performers, there is an inevitable surfeit of naïve, hopeful material, some of which might have been better rendered in dialogue. Still, the whole score draws its inspiration from the title song, which has been borrowed from the film, and parts of it are similarly stirring.
