GOOP vs GORILLA GLUE vs allenes original tacky glue vs Jewel glue for torn convertible vinyl top?
from the top its vinyl rubbery, but on the bottom of that its something clothlike that im sure will adhere well i dont know the material buti ts very cloth like, probably sinthetic but seems porous, if youve seen a convertible top you know what i mean theyre all like that, mine specifically is a miata, id like to glue from the bottom, the clothlike surface so its bonded, and then maybe some sort of seal on the vinyl side for the water, which one of these is better? ive heard of gorilla but dont know how that does with fabrics or vinyl, goop ive also heard its good and then the rest iven ever heard about,
also please tell me if the glue works for the clothlike surface or the vinyl surface, i plan to make a patch with some cloth, put the glue on and then apply that to the convertible it wont have that much tension do you think itll hold? i dont lose nothing trying it until i can buy a new top, thank you all
Don't mess around or make it worse. Put a tarp over it until you can afford to have the top replaced.
Tops last about as long as the car is designed to as built, three years to five years.
When garaged and tarped , weekend drivers, they may last 15-25 years.
We use a Vinyl Glue that is meant for Upholstery work. (Automobiles,Trucks,Boats,Awnings)
It will always have tension and will always fail at the weakest point. A well set top is tight and has bows or channels or frame that keep them in place while retracted or engaged.
Save the headaches and just get a good tarp. When replacing the top don't cheap out and cheat it. Get a reputable Upholstery Shop to replace it and ask the owner about why it ripped.
For now just tarp it and use on days when the skies are clear.
Otherwise take the bus.
